ECOWAS, FG to reposition postal services


ECOWAS PresidentECOWAS Commission and the Ministry of Communications Technology are to partner with the West African Postal Conference (WAPCO), to reposition postal operations and service delivery in the sub-region.

According to  reports that WAPCO is the umbrella body of designated postal operators of national governments of ECOWAS member states that coordinates postal activities in the region.

The Post Master-General of the Federation, Mr Ibrahim Baba said at a meeting on Thursday in Abuja that the forum was  to find ways of providing efficient and qualitative postal services to citizens.

Baba said that the meeting was also to ensure that the body was given the necessary powers to enable it to function effectively.

He recalled that WAPCO had been making progress in confronting the state of poor quality service in the region so far while hoping for services that would meet international best practice.

The post master-general expressed optimism that there would be positive support to efforts being made to reposition postal operations and service delivery in the sub region.

“`I have no doubt that this meeting will come up with resolutions that will make considerable impact on our road to success,’’ he said.

In attendance were delegates from West Africa Postal Administrations, officials from the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union and the Pan African Postal Union.
