Mr Folorunso Bamisayemi, the House Committee Chairman on Education, Science and Technology, made the plea at a meeting with the management of the ministry and the tutor-generals.
Bamisayemi said the meeting was to assess the performance of students in public schools.
He urged the ministry to develop a work plan that would improve the performance of students in internal and external examinations.
The lawmaker also enjoined the ministry and the management staff not to hesitate to ask for necessary intervention from the assembly.
He commended the ministry for its efforts at boosting the education sector in the state, urging that the welfare of staff and students should be taken seriously.
