It said that this followed the failure of the management to meet its demands.

Dr Adekunle Idris, its chairman, told News Men  in Lagos that deliberation at the congress  would determine the union next line of action.

Idris said that the institution’s governing council was yet to invite the union for dialogue at the expiration of the 14- day ultimatum on trade dispute issued.

NAN reports that the union in LASU issued the ultimatum on the trade dispute on April 15 at the expiration of initial 21-day ultimatum on April 13.

The union had threatened to embark on indefinite strike if its demands were not met by the expiration of the ultimatum.

The union had complained of non-implementation of some demands on which the management and the union had reached agreements in the past 12 months.

It also expressed disappointment over the Lagos State Government’s insistence on retaining the high tuition fees in spite of the dwindling enrolment figures, among other issues.

Meanwhile, Prof. John Obafunwa, the Vice-Chancellor, had, on April 19, appealed to the union to discontinue its plans to down tools in the interest of all stakeholders.

Obafunwa said that efforts were on to meet the demands of the union as only three out of the 20 demands presented by the union were yet to be met.

Idris, however, said the management had not shown commitment toward dialoguing with the members, let alone meeting their demands.

“Since the initial 21 days ultimatum trade dispute and the subsequent 14 days, the governing council had not at anytime called the union for any meeting,’’ he said.

The don said that the union had given the management opportunities to dialogue with it by issuing a trade dispute, but all to no avail.
