Court orders remand of farmer in police custody


An Okuta Area Court in Kwara on Thursday remanded a farmer, Sagi Sanni, in police custody for allegedly causing hurt to one Zakari Zema.

The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of voluntary causing hurt contrary to Section 242 of the Penal Code.

Zema, in his complaint, said that the accused on April 12 attacked him and his friend while on their way to Bukaru village in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara.

The complainant said the accused inflicted cuts on them with a cutlass because he wanted to retaliate what the complainant did to him four-years ago.

He explained that he had sometimes in 2010 attacked the accused for impregnating his wife, a matter which he said, the police had settled.

When asked, the accused agreed that truly he impregnated the complainant’s wife, but said he did not know that she was married.

The accused denied attacking the complainant, saying it was a story he cooked up to nail him.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Malam Ahmed Yahaya, ordered the remand of the accused in police custody, and adjourned the case to April 23 for continuation of hearing.
