Mr Sunday Edibor, Regional Director, North-Central, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, made this known in an interview with the News men  in Minna.

He said that the move was to ensure food security not only in the zone but also a way of making various crops available in the country.

“The Federal Government has created three staple crops processing zones in the three states to ensure food security in the country,’’ he said.

Edibor said the measure was to allow interested local and foreign farmers and other investors to operate on the demarcated areas that had been provided with necessary infrastructure.

He said the collaborative effort had commenced with the availability of 250 hectares of land on the federal roads in each of the three states.

The regional director said the states would process rice, cassava, vegetable and fruits, respectively.

Edibor, who did not give details of the partnership, said the states would provide 50 per cent of the logistics including land. He said that the Federal Government would provide the remaining 50 per cent, adding that foreign investors from Brazil and America had already moved to site in the three states.
