Police arraign employee over alleged N2.5m fraud


An employee, Taiye Oladipupo, on Monday appeared in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 1,200 cartons of dry gin valued at N2.5million.

Oladipupo, 35, who lives at 22, Obadore St., Ikorodu, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge  The Prosecutor, Adekemi Adeniran, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 20, at Global Beverages Nigeria Ltd, located at Industrial Estate, Ado-Odo, Ota, Ogun.She said that the accused sold 1,200 cartons of dry gin but he did not record the sales in any of the company’s sales document.
She said that the accused sold the drinks to one Adewolu Ademola, collected the money without the knowledge of the employer.
“However, the deal was exposed because the accused was not paid in full,’’ she said.

She said the offences contravened sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos-state, 2011.

Section 285 recommends three years imprisonment for offenders if convicte

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, granted N500,000 bail to the accused with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until April 19 for hearing
