Dr Abdullahi Sallau-Modibo, the Chairman, Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), on Wednesday said the commission would deploy 4,000 ad hoc staff for the conduct of Saturday’s local government’s poll.
Sallau-Modibo disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
He said that all arrangements had been concluded to ensure a hitch-free local government election in the state.
The chairman said that to ensure the success of the election, the commission had trained all the 13 local government electoral officers as well as the ad-hoc staff on the rules and regulations guiding the election.
He said that six political parties would participate in the Saturday’s election.
The parties are: All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) and the National Conscience Party (NCP)
Sallau-Modibo assured the political parties that the commission would provide a level-playing ground for them and would ensure a transparent, free and fair election.
“NASIEC is fully prepared for the election as both the sensitive and non-sensitive election materials are ready,’’ he said.
He said that on March 21, the commission would distribute the materials in the presence of representatives of all security agencies and party agents.
Sallau-Modibo said that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a violent-free election.
He also said that accreditation would commence by 8 a.m. and end by 12 noon, depending on the turn out of the electorate while would commence immediately and close at 4 p.m.
He advised politicians to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner to ensure a hitch-free poll.
