HIV+Aids+XXX+high+reson Wednesday inaugurated the State Management Committee on the implementation of the Presidential Comprehensive Response Plan (PCRP).

Wada, who performed the inauguration at the Government House in Lokoja said the initiative was informed by the desire to develop a home grown response plan.

According to him, the committee will enable the state to take greater ownership and accountability of its response to HIV and AIDS through the State Agency for Control of AIDS (KOSACA).

He said that members of the committee were drawn from boards, agencies, commissions and professional associations, amongst others.

Wada noted that the initiative was further necessitated by the dwindling and wide funding gap to HIV and AIDs programme.

He said that the committee’s seven terms of reference included ensuring regular interactions and to prepare state’s response reports for the governor.

Others are to ensure inclusiveness of all partners and stakeholders in the coordination of the state’s response.

Wada, while congratulating members of the committee also assured them of continuous support that would enable the team carry out its assignments efficiently.

In his speech, the State’s Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the Committee, Dr Idris Omede, said the team would work significantly in scaling up the fight against HIV and AIDS.

He commended the state government for its support and significant budget allocation to KOSACA to fight HIV and AIDS in the 2014 budget.

He said that the team would work toward zero discrimination and zero death by HIV and AIDS.

Omede said that the 2013 survey revealed that the state’s prevalence rate had dropped to 1.4 per cent as against 5.8 per cent in 2009.
