The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra has issued 1,693 drivers’ licences in the last two months, according to its Sector Commander, Mr Hygenus Omeje.
Omeje told Naija247news.com in Awka on Wednesday that the figure was above what it issued in the same period last year.
He said the sector needed more national drivers’ licence centres for effective operation, adding that the corps had only two functional licensing centres in the state.
The commander said the centres were inadequate to meet the increasing demand from the motorists who came for vehicle and licence registrations and data capturing.
“We have the two centres in Amawbia and the crowd we witness on daily basis is much so we have made requests to our national headquarters in Abuja, and hopeful it will be granted.
“We are appealing to the people to be patient and to co-operate with us as the problems will soon be resolved with more centres to serve them better,’’ Omeje said.
The command had between October 2011 and February 2014 registered 9,920 drivers who wanted to obtain the licences in the state.
The sector commander said more people would be registered without delay when its request for more centres had been granted.
