Delegates to National confab hold inaugural meeting


Delegates to the National Conference held their inaugural meeting on Tuesday and adjourned till Monday, March 24 to enable them study the documents for the proceedings.

Secretary to the conference, Mrs Valerie Azinge, said the inaugural meeting was to discuss the rules that would guide proceedings at the conference.

She told the delegates that the conference would sit for four days (Monday to Thursday) every week between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., while Fridays would be for administrative purposes.

Addressing newsmen  Azinge said that  the adjournment was to enable the delegates prepare for the task ahead.

“We adjourned till Monday to enable the delegates study the voluminous materials given to them and also the rules that would govern the conference.

“When they (delegates) have studied the materials, they would come up with informed opinion on which way to go,’’ she said.

Azinge assured the delegates that the presiding and principal officers of the conference would be democratic.

She said that the inaugural meeting was also to deliberate on issues like welfare, accommodation and transportation agitating the minds of the delegates.

“They (delegates) need to know what is available for them in terms of their accommodation, their transportation and sitting allowances,’’ she said.

The secretary urged the delegates to furnish the secretariat with their accounts details for the payment of their allowances and contact details of their medical doctors
