Protest group Pussy Riot has released its first music video since its two most prominent members were released from prison, with the footage mocking the Olympic Games in Sochi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who spent nearly two years in prison for staging a protest against Putin in a church, are among those to perform in the video.
The video which is entitled “Putin will teach you how to love the motherland.’’
The footage shows five group members being beaten by uniformed Cossacks once the patrolmen of the Russian borderlands as they perform a song against the backdrop of Sochi Olympics logos.
The performance art collective has repeatedly called for a boycott of the Sochi Olympics, arguing that Putin has exceeded his authority and is restricting human rights.
“The Olympics have turned an authoritarian regime into a totalitarian regime with preventative arrests,’’ said Tolokonnikova, after detailing her most recent arrest in Sochi and the subsequent interrogation by the Russian secret service.
The band has been filming in Sochi since Sunday and has had violent run-ins with the authorities.
They have been detained several times. (dpa/NAN)
