The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in a renewed effort to ensure a safe and secure environment at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Ikeja, on Thursday arrested some hawkers.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Mr Yakubu Dati, the General Manage,Corporate Communications of FAAN, told newsmen that the Security Directorate of FAAN had stepped up its crack down on hawkers in and around the airport, in an operation which started
on Tuesday.
“During one of the operations of the Security Directorate of the agency which took place on Tuesday, Feb.18, at the MMA Access Plaza, some hawkers were also arrested and their goods confiscated.
“Those arrested had been handed over to the police for prosecution,’’ Dati said.
He said that until the recent raid, the Access Plaza was regularly besieged by hawkers, resulting in constant traffic
gridlock on the access road to the airport.
Dati said that following the operation, sanity had returned to the area as vehicular movement at the Access Plaza was now seamless.
“We also wish to inform the general public that the increasing incidence of traffic congestion on the MMA internal
access roads has been traced to the ever increasing volume of vehicular traffic on the main access road.
“The development provides an easier access from Ikeja to other areas of the state, including Mafoluku, Ajao Estate, Isolo, Mile II, Apapa and Badagry.
“The Authority appeals to users of the access road to minimise the time spent at the newly automated access plaza
by paying the fees promptly’’
He urged the plaza users to ensure that they had the exact amount for the toll, to ensure free flow of traffic on the
internal road at all times.
