A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has called on political leaders to serve the people selflessly.

He charged the political leaders to dedicate themselves to the peace, unity and stability of the country and also invest in the country to bequeath to the future generation a secured future.
Tukur thanked the group for the visit and for remaining steadfast, faithful and dedicated to him, even when he had left office, adding that they should be resolute with PDP.
“I am convinced that when you offer credible, meritorious service and leadership, the people will at all time appreciate you whether in office or not,’’ Tukur said.
The former PDP national chairman said that he had served the country selflessly, noting that he would continue to render selfless service to the country and to the PDP.
He charged the group to support the new national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu`azu, and President Goodluck Jonathan, to enable them deliver on the party manifestoes and transformation agenda.
He re-emphasised his support to the new PDP national chairman and prayed that he would surpass him in office.
Tukur said that the PDP was the only reliable platform to serve the country better, and the party had successfully served Nigerians by providing democratic dividends to electorate.
He urged the group and Nigerians to vote massively for the PDP in future elections and to support it as a united political family.
He charged PDP members not to be discouraged by the perceived defection of some of its members to the opposition, adding that more politicians of goodwill would join the party.
Earlier, Mr Ogundiye Oladele, South-West Chairman of the group; Alhaji Dauda Adamu, North-East Chairman; and Mrs Kate Okeke, National Women leader urged Tukur not to relent in supporting the PDP.
Mr Francis Ugboho, National Coordinator of the group, said that the group was poised to foster greater unity and internal synergy within the ranks of the PDP.
Ugboho said that the immediate objective of the group was to work for the re-election of Jonathan in 2015.
The group conferred on Tukur, the position of the National Trustee in recognition of his commitment to it, the PDP, the country and the advancement of Nigerian youths.
Ugboho expressed optimism that the conferment of the position on Tukur, would further strengthen the symbiotic relationship that existed between the group and him.
He also conferred on Jonathan the position of Grand Patron in recognition of the benefit his partnership could bring to the group.
