Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 Android tablet goes on sale for $159.99

samsung-galaxy-tab-3-light-android-tablet-pc-tablets-600x600Much has been made of Samsung’s recent move into super-size tablets as part of its new Galaxy Pro family, which includes a 12.2-inch Galaxy Pro Note for $749.99. Perhaps as a counter to that, the company has gone in the opposite direction with its latest tablet.

Announced last month, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 has just gone on sale for the low, low price for $159.99. As you might expect, this budget tablet eschews high-priced parts, housing a mere 1.2GHz dual-core processor (apparently a Marvell PXA986), 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, and a 1,024×600 7-inch display. It also runs Android 4.2.2 Jellybean rather than a more recent variant. You can get it in either black or white, however.

Even at that price, the Tab 3 Lite is premium priced compared to other 7-inch Android tablets with similar budget specs, thanks no doubt to the Samsung name. Still, it gives the company a (roughly) $150 tablet without needing to discount one of their better-performing models, a potentially crucial piece as the long-term trend in tablet pricing (Apple be damned) is ever-downward. Which means you could see this on sale for around $100 during Black Friday later this year.
