Niger Republic signs pact with agro-industrial firm to boost cotton farming

Agro-Industrial Firm, Geocoton, aimed at boosting cotton farming in the Dosso region of that country.

The pact was signed by Niger’s Agriculture Minister Abdou Labo and representative of Geocoton, Karim Ait Talb on Friday in Niamey.

The agriculture minister said during the signing ceremony that the accord was aimed at boosting economic growth by creating jobs and increasing farmers’ incomes.

Stressing that Dosso region is 140 km from the capital, Niamey, the Nigerien minister explained that under the agreement, 5,000 cotton farmers would benefit from the technical assistance of Geocoton.

He noted that the firm would fund and distribute inputs to farmers, in addition to helping with the marketing of the commodity at the international market.
