The Jigawa Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) recruited 1,349 teachers under the Federal Teachers Scheme (FTS) in the last eight years, an official said on Friday in Dutse.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Malam Isyaku Jibril, the federal teachers scheme’s co-ordinator attached to the board, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that the teachers were recruited between 2006 and 2013.
“A total of 776 people received training under the scheme between 2006 and 2008, but only 547 were absorbed and given permanent appointment by the board to teach as primary school teachers.’’
He also said a total of 112 teachers were trained under the scheme between 2007 and 2009, but that only 43 were absorbed by the board to teach in junior secondary schools.
“Another set of 794 teachers were also trained between 2007 and 2009, but only 371 were absorbed as primary school teachers.
“The board, under the same scheme, trained 156 teachers between 2010 and 2012 and absorbed only 85 to teach in junior secondary schools,’’ the co-ordinator said.
Jibril also said a total of 556 teachers received training under the scheme between 2011 and 2013, but that only 303 were recruited to teach as primary school teachers.
“Another set of 300 arts-based and 100 social science-based teachers are currently receiving training under the same programme in the state.
“All the recruited teachers were posted to various primary and junior secondary schools across the 27 local government areas (LGAs) of the state,’’ he said
