ECOWAS says it is committed to ensuring the brightest future for West African children, through the implementation of various child protection, education and development programmes.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!A statement by ECOWAS Assistant Director Of Communications, Mr Sunny Ugoh, quoted the President of ECOWAS Commission, Mr Kadré Ouédraogo, as saying this in Akosombo, Ghana, on Wednesday.
The statement said Ouédraogo spoke during an interactive session with the management, staff and students of the Akosombo International School.
“As community citizens and future leaders, you are entitled to all rights under the ECOWAS instruments, including free movement and the right to basic education.
“It is our duty and obligation to provide our children with quality education, training and to protect them from child labour.
“It is also our duty and obligation to protect our children from child abuse, early marriage and discrimination against the girl child.”.
The children would also be protected from child trafficking, use in conflicts and other practices harmful to child development, the statement quoted the ECOWAS Commission President to have said.
It said that Ouédraogo restated the “irreversible” commitment of ECOWAS to economic development and promotion of peace and stability in the region.
It enjoined the management, staff and students of the institution to cultivate the spirit of unity and integration.
The statement further quoted Ouedraogo as encouraging them to build on the strength of diversity and aspire to excellence as productive and worthy ECOWAS citizens
