The Police in Lagos on Wednesday paraded a 34-year-old man arrested for allegedly impersonating the Inspector-General of Police to defraud some people.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Parading the suspect in Lagos, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide, said he was arrested by policemen from Area G, Ogba, during a `stop and search’ operation.
Braide said that during the search, documents relating to the impersonation were found on the suspect, who claimed to be a fish farmer.
She alleged that the suspect used the Inspector-General’s letter head paper with a forged write up in his name and signature to defraud a foreigner of $100,000 (about N16 million)
Braide said the suspect claimed he met his victim on Facebook and demanded for $200,000 but only collected $100,000 before his arrest.
The spokesperson alleged that the suspect also used the name of the Minister of Finance and other prominent Nigerians to defraud some Nigerians.
“He allegedly forged various documents for the purpose of defrauding innocent Nigerians.
“Incriminating documents found on the suspect include Federal High Court of Justice Certificate of Legality, Central Bank of Nigeria cheque and Ministry of Tourism contract award certificate.
“Other documents include Anti-Drug and Money Laundering Clearance Certificate and Tribunal Supreme change of ownership,’’ she said.
Braide said the suspect confessed that all the documents found in his house were counterfeit.
Similarly, a 55-year-old man, who claimed to be a graphic artist, was also paraded for being in possession of fake US Dollars amounting to $151.
Braide said that the man was arrested after a tip off by members of the public on the illegal business at Alade Market, Ikeja.
She said that the two suspects would soon be charged to court.
