Ododo made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that his appeal became necessary because of the failure of NNPC to repair the vandalised pipelines and the hazard posed to the citizens by the continuous leakage of petroleum products.

He said it was disheartening that NNPC had failed to replace the damaged pipelines after dumping new pipes in the area about two months ago.

“Those oil pipes are old and that is why they are leaking; it will be difficult to curtail the frequent vandalism if they are not replaced with new ones,” he said.

The traditional ruler said that replacement of the old pipes and clearing of the pipelines’ right of way would reduce the incidence of pipeline vandalism.

“Our community is a bit stable and peaceful due to the clearance of the bush by government.

“But to guarantee everlasting peace is for government to replace the damaged pipelines,’’ he said.

“We also appeal to the authorities to sandfill the swampy area that leads to the pipeline section.

“This will enable our people to secure the place better and it will be difficult for vandals to penetrate without being caught by security men,” he said. (NAN)
