Police arraign man for fraud

police arrest abujaThe Police in Ogun on Monday arraigned one Fade Julius for allegedly collecting N670,000 under false pretence to get a Toyota Corolla car for one Olatunji Eniola.

Julius, 45, of No.16 Oremeji St., Sango-Ota, Ogun, is on trial for a one count of obtaining money under false pretence at an Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 6 in Ota, Ogun.

Mustapha said the accused collected N670, 000 under false pretence to help the complainant to buy a Toyota Corolla car from the Republic of Benin, an agreement he failed to fulfill.

He said that the action of the accused contravened sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Revised Law of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, Mrs A.O. Abimbola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abimbola said one of the sureties must show evidence of having a landed property, utility bills and two years’ tax clearance certificate as part of the bail conditions.

She also said that the sureties should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and that the addresses should be verified by the police.

Abimbola adjourned the case till Feb. 3. (NAN)
