Onoja, also the Head, Organising Department, Benue Sports Council, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja he was optimistic his team would emerge winners in all the sports.

NAN reports that 14 sports are being competed for at the NYG, which is holding in Abuja from Dec. 6 to Dec. 15.

“We are prepared to face any state in this competition and, with our skills and techniques, we are sure of victory, ’’ the Benue official said.

He also commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) for organising the NYG, adding that all necessary logistics were provided and all facilities in good condition.

“I really commend the NSC for putting up this competition and helping to provide virtually everything that we need.

“The feeding arrangement and transportation to the event venues are all excellent.

“This competition will also help us to `catch them young’. Exposing these kids to sports will help to shape their minds and intellect,’’ Onoja said.

He also commended the state government for sponsoring the Benue team, assuring that they would make the state proud.

NAN reports that the NYG is a development programme of the NSC meant for athletes between the ages of 13 and 17
