Amadi made the assertion in an interview with the Newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He said that lack of accountability by leaders was responsible for the financial recklessness in the nation.

“Our leaders need to know that frugality is a virtue which brings in development and economic advancement.

“It is very unfair for our leaders to continue to spend the nation’s money as if it is their personal money without considering the consequences,’’ he said.

Amadi called for effective implementation of due process in the management of national resources.

He said that due process was necessary to sustain the economy and reduce fraud and pecuniary conspiracy by public office holders.

The economist said that corruption could be resisted by the citizens, adding that the difficulties being experienced by Nigerians were manmade.

According to him, Nigeria should rise above selfishness and greed and usher in prosperity among the people.

Amadi flayed the manner some corrupt public officers had made illicit wealth, stressing that “it must be stopped”.

He urged Nigerians to take responsibility and wage war against corruption in their various endeavours, stressing that the war should be a collective responsibility.
