Ms Nkiru Nnaemego, Founder, Fresh and Young Brains Development Initiative, an NGO, has called on youths to promote clean energy and sustainable agriculture to help the nation’s quest for food security.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Nnaemego told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the youth had the capacity to play key roles in the agricultural transformation agenda of the Federal Government.
”Youths should be able to come together to seek ways to support government in promoting clean energy and how to mainstream them in sustainable agriculture and what can be an alternative to oil.
”Clean energy is renewable energy, using energy that does not have negative effects on the environment.
”We are looking at power, solar energy and hydro power, which will not have negative effects and cause global warming, and reduce emissions to the environment,” she said.
According to her, clean energy and sustainable agriculture are embedded with many opportunities that can help promote youth entrepreneurship and generate employment opportunities for citizens.
”In agriculture, there are different best practices that we have learnt from foreign countries that young people can be involved in, instead of staying idle.
”The youth can be involved as farmers, food processors, food transporters and inspectors; they can also take farming as a career or as a part time job.”
Nnaemego stressed the need for a thorough regulation of the energy sector to reduce emissions on the environment.
