Ashley Young and Anderson will head the January clear-out at Manchester United.

Champions United will look to offload the pair on permanent deals, but will consider loaning them out elsewhere if that is the only available option.

David Moyes is looking to trim his squad and it is understood midfield duo Young and Anderson have been deemed surplus to requirements.

Anderson has been unable to live up to his £24million fee since arriving from Porto in 2007 and has failed to impress Moyes since the Scot took over in the summer.

Young, who has not started a Premier League game since being subbed after 51 minutes in United’s 4-1 derby defeat at Manchester City, is also on his way out.

Moyes’ January targets including Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The Scot is also confident of landing Leighton Baines from Everton at the second attempt, after his former employers refused to let the England left-back follow him to United in the summer.

The acquisition of Baines would enable Moyes to jettison Alex Buttner, who has failed to convince since arriving from Vitesse Arnhem in summer 2012.

There is also a question mark over the future of reserve striker Javier Hernandez, who wants to be playing regularly ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Leaders Arsenal are keen on Chicharito, as are arch-rivals Tottenham, but Moyes has insisted he has no plans to let him go as he wants to have four strikers at his disposal.
