Benin Electricity Company orders property owners under high tension wires to relocate

The Benin Electricity Distribution CompanyThe Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Akure on Thursday ordered property owners and people transacting business under high tension wires in Ondo State to relocate immediately.

A statement by Mr Oghale Eduziare, Public Affairs Manager of the company, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, described such acts as “suicidal”.

The company also warned residents not to use fireworks close to power installations during the Yuletide.

“We wish to remind the public that our Right of Way of 5.5 metres on 11/33KV, 12.5 metres on 132KV and 25 metres on 330 KV installations and power lines is still very much in force.

“The general public is advised to stay clear from power lines and installations.

“If faults or accidents occur on these power lines or installations, both occupants and buildings under therein will be roasted and burnt beyond recognition.

“Mechanics, petty traders and artisans squatting under and living close to power lines and installations are advised to relocate immediately to avoid untimely death and wanton destruction of properties,” it said.

The company advised residents to ensure security of electricity installations and equipment in their areas.

“Hunters and farmers should exercise caution in the use of fireworks around power equipment and installations spread across the length and breadth of Ondo State.
