Pastor in court for impersonating DG SSS brother

300px-CourtGavelA 50-year-old pastor, Keiggy Ogarekpe, on Wednesday, appeared in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates` Court, charged with pretending to be a brother to the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS).

Ogarekpe, was charged with impersonating a public servant and cheating.

The prosecutor, Paul Igoche, told the court that between Oct. 20 and Oct. 26, the accused pretended to be the younger brother of the DG, and collected N800,000 from one David Solomon with a promise to influence a contract for him with the NNPC.

Igoche said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 132, 322 and 324 of the penal code.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and denied all the allegations.

The counsel to the accused, Mr Felix Ipogah, applied for the accused to be granted bail on liberal conditions.

Ipogah, told the magistrate that the accused had been granted an unconditional release by Justice Abubakar Mohammed of the FCT High Court.

“The case before Justice Mohammed is an enforcement of Fundamental Human Rights case,” he said.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Christopher Oba, admitted the accused to bail in sum of N1 million and a surety in like sum.

Oba ordered that the surety must be a civil servant not  below Grade level 10 and residing within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case to Feb. 17, 2014 for further hearing. (NAN)
