He said that the short life span of imported bulbs and the non-adherence to standards remained the characteristic of substandard imported bulbs.
The NIEEE president also urged regulators to show more commitment in enforcing national standards, stressing that consumers were daily losing confidence in the government.
“It is possible to buy bulbs that can last up to one year, with the consumers happy and the sellers equally making a profit.
“It is possible for us to celebrate a new Nigeria that is substandard-free, within one year, if all agencies saddled with regulation join hands together,’’ he said.
Adekunle also charged marketers to demonstrate patriotism by selling only goods that meet international best standards.
“We can still change the negative perception suffered by Nigerians by doing the right kind of business, as it is the only way to do sustainable business,” he said.
Adekunle advised importers to ensure that the manufacturers always adhered to Nigerian quality standards.
The NIEEE president said that that Nigeria would be saving billions of dollars yearly if it embraced the global challenge.
“There is a need for Nigerians to adopt energy conservation measures by using efficient, environmental-friendly and durable lighting bulbs,” he added. (NAN)
