Safety of air passengers our priority, says operators’ new chairman

The safety of passengers and development of the aviation sector will be our priority, Capt. Nogie Meggison, the new National Chairman, Airline Operators of Nigeria, has said.

He said this on Monday in Lagos while addressing aviation correspondents on the outcome of the operators’ annual general meeting held in Kaduna on Nov. 30.

According to Meggison, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Jed Air, airline operators are in business because there are passengers who want to fly.

“Their safety is of importance to us and, so, we must promote our customers’ protection.

“Through this, the passengers will restore confidence in our operations, foreign investors will want to invest in the sector and we will jointly grow the aviation sector,” he said.

Meggison said that his administration would form a formidable body by bringing all operators under one umbrella to sustain efficient service expected of the sector.

He said that contrary to speculations, that there is no splinters group in the body.

According to him, there are 26 airline operators that have Aircraft Operating Certificates (AOC) in Nigeria issued by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“Twenty of them attended the Annual General Meeting, 18 voted for me while two voted against me.”

He said that the operators would meet the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency on Tuesday to discuss the recently upward review of charges it directed non-scheduled charter operators to pay. (NAN)
