Trial in the case of a 37-year-old man, Babatunde Gbolahan, arraigned for allegedly beating his wife to death, was on Monday stalled due to the absence of the defence counsel.

According to the charge sheet, Gbolahan committed the offence on Oct. 13, 2009 at No. 9 Olatunji St., Mushin, Lagos at 7.40 p.m.
The charge sheet noted that Gbolahan had an argument with his wife, Yemisi Gbolahan, which led to a fight and he beat her to death with a belt and turner.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which the prosecutor, Mr Afolabi Sholebo, said contravened Section 325 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
Sholebo told the court that the counsel to the defendant, Mrs Folakemi Jegede, was absent.
Justice Opesanwo adjourned the case to Jan. 27, 2014 for continuation of trial. (NAN)
