Estonian public prosecutors on Monday started criminal proceedings against eight professional footballers for match-fixing and rigging bets.

The players are believed to have fixed at least 12 league matches and one cup contest in Estonia, three Europa League games and one match in Lithuania from June 2011 to November 2012.
They are said to have won more than 108,000 euros (147,000 dollars) in the scandal.
The prosecutors did not want to name any specific matches believed to be fixed.
The players were already suspended in March by the Estonian football federation for a year because of suspected fraud. (dpa/NAN)
