The Magistrate, Mr Azubuike Okeagu, sentenced Jibrin after he pleaded guilty to stealing the generator set.
Okeagu who frowned at the increasing cases of theft involving youths, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine
of 10, 000 to serve as deterrent to others.
“Youths should engage their brains in better things rather than engaging in criminal activities;” he said.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ochehe, told the court that one Tanimu Madaki, who resides at the same address as the
accused, lodged the report at the Kuje Police Station, Abuja on Nov. 19.
Ochehe said that on Nov. 19, Jibrin broke into Deeper Life Bible Church and stole a generator, valued at N40,000.
The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested while trying to sell the facility to a scrap buyer.
Ochehe said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 288 and 320 the Penal Code.
The convict had pleaded for leniency, apologising to the church members and the court for his action. (NAN)
