Collector seeks revival of Nigeria’s tourism potential

Mr Kennedy Eguakun, an Art Collector and Head of Operations, Baba Kenny Owens Creations, FCT, has appealed to the Federal Government to revamp the Nigerian tourism potential for investment opportunities.

Eguakun made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

He said that such reawakening would strengthen the relationship between tourism investors and their service providers.

He also stressed the need to create awareness that could enhance the development of local tourism destinations in the country.

“Nigeria has the greatest tourism potential in Africa and investing in the tourism sector will generate foreign exchange through financial returns on investment.

“There should be a kind of synergy between the states, local governments, local communities and stakeholders to build the sector.’’

The collector urged the Federal Government to provide an enabling environment for the development of tourism sector and also for creative art to strive.

“Government policy on tourism should be looked into as this will help to generate foreign exchange, encourage even development and promote tourism based rural enterprise,’’ he said.

Eguakun said that the country’s tourism sector should be a pillar that would unlock and enhance economic growth, infrastructure development, trade promotion, poverty eradication and job creation.

According to him, Nigeria tourism sector is endowed with rich and divers potential which, if concentrated on, will yield huge investment for the country.

He said that the sector was a veritable instrument in nation’s building and physical growth.

Eguakun further stressed the need to develop the nation’s historical heritage sites which would open up the rural areas to fast-track development. (NAN)
