Grassroots Development Initiatives (GDI), an NGO, on Monday said the defection of Gov. Rotimi Amaechi to All Progressives Congress would benefit the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The president of the GDI, Mr Bright Amewhule, said this in interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.
He said that the exit of Amaechi would give the PDP the opportunity to replace him with a leader who would deliver dividends of democracy to the state in the future.
He said that rather than mourn Amaechi’s departure from PDP, the people of Rivers should celebrate it.
“We assured him that any day he moves away from PDP to another party, we will celebrate and have a thanksgiving service and we have kept that promise,’’ he told NAN.
Amewhule said that the people of Rivers were expecting quality leadership from whoever PDP would present in future gubernatorial election in the state.
He called on the people of Rivers to be peaceful and continue to support the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr Hope Utchay, the GDI coordinator in Evo, Obiakpo Local Government Area of Rivers told NAN that River PDP would witness peace following the exit of Amaechi.
He urged PDP leadership at the state and national levels to remain focused so that they would deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians. (NAN)
