Passenger train derails in New York

The North America Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as saying that the derailment occurred near the Spuyten Duyvil station.

It said that the train was the 05:54 from Poughkeepsie, due to arrive at Grand Central Station at 07:43, adding that the Hudson Line services had been suspended.

Also, the Fire service Department of New York said that the derailment occurred at 07:20, causing “multiple injuries”, and that 130 fire fighters were on ground.

According to local media reports, five of the Metro-North train’s seven carriages came off the tracks. (NAN)
