The Lay Readers Association of the Church of Immaculate Conception, Zaramaganda, Jos, has called on public spirited persons to show love to orphans to make their lives more meaningful.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The association made the call while donating some materials to Our Lady of Apostles Orphanage, Zawan, Jos as part of the activities for its 2013 love feast.
Mr Nevin Haa, the Chairman of the organising committee, said that if cared for and loved, the orphans would have better sense of belonging and the society would be better for it.
Haa said the lay readers’ visit to the orphanage was to share the love that Christ had admonished Christians to express.
“It also to put us in the Christmas mood because Christmas is all about love and sharing,’’ he added.
The chairman said the visit was also aimed at knowing how the children were fairing in the orphanage and the challenges the management was going through.
The President of the association, Mrs Christy John-Zi, in her remarks, urged Christians not to despise orphans, particularly those with health challenges as they were human beings and part of the society.
John-Zi said that Christ would reward those who cared for the less privileged ones according to his words which said that “whatever you do to the least of my brethren that you have done unto me’’.
She urged members of the association to find time on their own to visit orphanages to show love to the orphans regularly.
Mrs Rachael Pwakim, a staff of the orphanage, who received the lay readers, appreciated their visit and gifts.
Pwakim, popularly known as “Big Mama’’ by the orphans, said the gesture would help in no small measures in taking care of the children.
The items donated by the group were food items, toiletries and money. (NAN)
