Prof. Oye Ibidapo-Obe, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi, has said that the university’s members of staff will never embark on strike to interrupt academic activities.

He said the institution was determined not to encounter incessant interruption of its academic calendar to ensure that its students graduate on schedule.
According to him, the new students are commencing their academic journeys under the tutelage of world class academics and other highly cerebral members of staff, in a conducive environment.
“our policies are driven by Information Communications Technology and we have committed and highly motivated members of staff in a period when higher education is undergoing rapid and dramatic transformation globally,” he said.
The vice chancellor said the institution was matriculating 494 students, noting that the university’s management had taken a bold step toward making it a world-class institution.
Obidapo-Obe said one of the steps was the inauguration of an Advancement Centre for the comparison of notes with other Ivy League universities and organisations.
“We are currently discussing with Hiroshima University, Japan, with a view to make our university a centre for the study of space science and astronomy.
“We have also embarked on a partnership programme with a few selected universities in the U.S to establish staff-students interaction and exchange and to encourage our faculties to undergo postgraduate training and research,” he said.
Ibidapo-Obe warned the students not to engage in acts such as cultism, examination malpractice, sex/ money in exchange for marks, as the institution had a zero-tolerance on misconduct.
The Supervising Minister for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, congratulated the students and promised that the Federal Government would continue to provide the enabling environment for their academic pursuits.
Wike said the government would provide the students with adequate facilities, manpower and other needs, to ensure that the various challenges facing the educational system in the country was surmounted.
Gov. Martin Elechi represented by Chief Chukwuma Nwazunku, Speaker of the House of Assembly, pledged the state government’s support to enable the institution achieve its goals.
Highlights of the occasion include; goodwill messages from relevant stakeholders, cutting of the matriculation cake, matriculation procession, and cultural performances, among others. (NAN)
