Outgoing perm sec urges improved welfare for youths

Mr Tunji  Olaopa, outgoing Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, has called on governments at all levels to put in place policies that would improve the welfare of youths.

He made the call on Friday in Abuja when he handed over to incoming Permanent Secretary, Mr Henry Akpan.

 

He said youths have important roles to play in the development of any country “and therefore, all efforts must be deployed to harness their potential.

 

“The decisions of our youths must be looked into critically because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

 

“The youth can benefit immensely in the democratic process of the country if they are involved positively.’’

 

Olaopa added that in spite of some challenges, there should not be any barrier stopping the ministry from achieving its set targets.

 

Responding, Akpan said “I will be glad to work with the staff to see how we can show Nigerians that we can deliver better services and make the youth better in their chosen fields of endeavour.

 

“From Monday, work will start and we will be getting briefing from the various departments.’’

Akpan sought the cooperation of the workers of the ministry toward improving the lives of Nigerian youths. (NAN)
