Inaugurating the committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Oshiomhole called on the committee to reposition the team.

He said that the state had over the years been troubled by the fate of the club, adding that government had not achieved any significant progress in repositioning it.

“We have been troubled about the situation in Bendel Insurance, no matter how generous I want to be with myself.

“I can’t claim that we have done much or achieve anything significant in the area of repositioning the club,’’ Ohiomhole said.

He said although “I am a football fanatic, it is sad that I have not been able to demonstrate my passion for the game by taking the club to the top where it was before’’.

The governor assured the committee of the necessary assistance to facilitate the job of rebuilding, restructuring and repositioning the club.

Among other terms of reference, the committee is to look into the financial status of the club, and ascertain its debt profile, salary arrears and preparation for the new season.

It is also to design a policy of ‘’catch them young,’’ amongst others.

In his acceptance speech, Ihonvbere promised to bring discipline, commitment and focus that would return the club to its former glory.

Other members of the committee are, Mike Itemuagbor, Coach Amodu Shuaibu, Austin Eguavoen, Chief Abel Ehigie, Charles Ehimikpen and Omokhagbor Sixtus.

The committee has three months to submit its report. (NAN)
