NEMA trains `civilian JTF’ on emergencies in Maiduguri

nema-logoThe National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it provided emergency training to local vigilance group popularly called `Civilian JTF.’

This information is contained in a statement by Malam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, the NEMA North-East Information Officer, in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the civilian JTF are currently undergoing reorientation training at the NYSC camp in Maiduguri.

“The NEMA North-East Zonal Office has mobilised the Red Cross and Fire Service to provide basic emergency training to vigilantes called civilian JTF.

“They are currently undergoing training under the Borno State Youth Empowerment Scheme (BOYES) in Maiduguri.

“The training covers basic first aid and fire control and prevention programme.

“It also will provide knowledge on basic response techniques to the trainees so that they can serve as frontline responders in cases of disaster within their communities,’’ Ibrahim said.

He said the zonal Coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar, was represented by an official, Malam Hamza Sani, at the event.

Ibrahim, said that Kanar urged the participants to utilise the knowledge acquired at the training to enable them to perform effectively.

The coordinator also said the agency was ready to partner with all levels of government to ensure adequate training on basic emergency management, especially at the grassroots levels. (NAN)
