The Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Agriculture, Mrs Paulina Hassan said this in Kaduna when officials of the Commercial Agriculture Development Project (CADP) visited the state to assess its implementation.

She said such partnership would promote value addition to the produce and enhance financial gains to farmers.

The permanent secretary said under the programme, 2, 195 farmers in the state had cultivate over 9, 462 hectares of maize this year.

She added that the programme had assisted the farmers to increase their yield per hectare from 2.2 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes.

“In the area of dairy and fruit value chain, not many farmers have benefited; however, with the support of the CADP, it is hoped that more benefits will be achieved.

“The benefits should be in such areas as meat processing, through the expansion of abattoirs, and fruit trees seedlings production through the introduction of Green House technology.”

In his remarks, the Project Manger of the state Agricultural Development Project (KADP), Alhaji Abdulkadir Kasim said the state government had released N180 million for the implementation of the CADP in the state.

Kasim said the money was for the rehabilitation of veterinary clinics, production of seedlings and establishment of green house.

On his part, the National Coordinator of CADP, Dr Aminu Babale commended the state government for its commitment to the programme.

He said the supervision mission was aimed at harmonising the activities of the programme with that of the state government to enhance cooperation.(NAN)
