Clark stated this on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, and   the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Dr. Lateef Busari, in Abuja on Thursday.

The Federal Government had recently approved a new sugar master plan for the country at a Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The government had said that the 10-year master plan would save the country $350m annually from foreign exchange, and would create  37,378 permanent jobs adding that the country only produces three per cent of local consumption while the rest is imported at the cost of over N100bn.

Clark said he had a mandate   to establish a world class sugar business in the Dangote Group, and develop a fully integrated world class sugar supply chain that would put the country on the world sugar map.

According to him, the target is achievable given the strength of Dangote Group and government’s legislative support.

He said he was delighted to be part of the new Nigerian sugar sector redevelopment project.

Welcoming the Dangote Sugar team, Aganga said the sugar master plan was an important initiative for the Federal Government, as it would boost economic growth as well as enable the sector to create an extended value chain.

He added that   implementation of the master plan would create numerous employment opportunities.

The minister urged the Dangote Group to remain focus on their approach to the success of the backward integration project and ensure they employ the best hands to run the affairs of their companies.
