Nyager, the Chief Veterinary Officer in the Department, said that the farmers’ registration was part of the government’s efforts to boost national milk production in the state.

He gave the figure at the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) scheme for dairy value chain at Gurin Village in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa.

The official said that the programme was part of the national strategy to boost milk production.

“The ministry selected Adamawa  as one of  those states  to participate  in the GES  for the dairy value chain, to strengthen the pioneering  efforts of the  private  sector.

“No fewer than 878 dairy farmers have been registered in the state, and the exercise is still ongoing.”

He also said that the dairy value chain had embarked on breed improvement through artificial insemination which was coordinated by the government.

The official said that the insemination would be subsidised at a discount of 50 per cent.

Nyager said the dairy value chain would also provide support for registered farmers through the provision of critical livestock inputs. (NAN)
