Mr Tony Ekirigwe, the Head of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, NYSC Gombe State Office, gave the advice at the orientation lecture for corps members on Friday in Gombe.

Addressing corps members deployed to Borno and Gombe states at the Malam-Sidi Orientation Camp, Gombe, Ekirigwe said the entrepreneurship programme was introduced by the Federal Government to solve unemployment problem.

According to him, the programme is aimed at educating and preparing corps members to be self employed and empowered to be job creators in the society.

“This is to make them change their orientation to become entrepreneurs to create job opportunities after the service year.” he said.

He said the corps members were divided into 12 sections of poultry farming and animal husbandry.

Ekirigwe said that corps members were also taught how to make cake, soap, fashion design, laundry service, information technology and auto mobile, among others.

“We want to empower them so that they can start thinking of what is next after the service year; to start their own job and employ others.” he said.

Mr Samuel Abba, a human resource trainer, also called on the corps members to utilise the time of the service year to think of what they would do thereafter.

He stressed the need for corps members to know how to write good business proposals, look for jobs, attend interviews and know the importance of furthering their education.  (NAN)
