Mr Adebiyi Mabadeje, the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, disclosed this at a media parley on the scorecard of his ministry.

He said that there had been observations that people had ideas, but could not develop them  because of  lack of funds.

The commissioner said that the grant would enable persons with creative ideas to go into research and develop such ideas for the good of the economy.

He said that the initiative would strengthen capacity and create job opportunities for the teeming population.

According to him, R&D is what has been strengthening other countries economy, hence Nigeria should follow suit.

He said that a first call was made in the first week of November for proposals for the grant.

Mabadeje said that one of the projects that the state would be engaged in would be building of ”Internet City” at Katangowa area of Lagos.

He said that a committee had  been put in place to look into the relocation of residents within the proposed 15 hectres of land.

According to him, the Internet city is where Information Technology (IT) services and businesses will strive more efficiently.

”We want businesses to operate in a conducive environment. It is always better and easier when you have like minds working together,” he said.

The commissioner said that the government would do all that was necessary to make the state the hub of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). (NAN)
