This information is contained in a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Friday.

Metuh said in the event of any breakdown of law and order in the state during the election, the police should hold the All Progressives Congress (APC) responsible.

He advised people in the state to be vigilant and to report any “foul’’ play by members of other political parties involved in the elections to appropriate authorities.

He said the arrest of 181 armed political thugs from Imo “ready to be deployed to Anambra, has clinically exposed APC’s plot to cause mayhem and unleash violence during the election’’.

The PDP spokesman said the plot was part of the grand design by APC leaders to disrupt and discredit the election knowing that Anambra people had rejected their party.

He commended the police for the arrest, but added that those arrested represented “a small fraction of armed thugs prepared to be unleashed on Anambra by the APC’’.

He alleged that the APC had armed no fewer than 4,000 of its members “with dangerous weapons, set to be deployed from Imo to Anambra’’.

According to him, the aim of this is to cause trouble and violence during the election which comes up on Saturday.

“Having failed in their efforts to blackmail and discredit other parties, especially the PDP and the presidency, the APC has now resorted to violence to ensure that the election is disrupted.

“The APC is a party given to violence and now seeks to import such into the South-East in their desperate and selfish bid for power.’’ Metuh said.

He said the exposure of the plot by the police had not only vindicated the PDP, but had shown that the opposition did not have the interest of Nigerians at heart. (NAN)
