Sokoto spends N252m on materials for community dev.

Aliyu-Wamakko-The Sokoto State Government on Thursday said it had spent more than N252 million on the purchase of assorted materials for community development.

The Special Adviser to Gov. Aliyu Wamakko on Community Development, Alhaji Harande Tsamiya, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto.

 

He said the materials were donated to various communities in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state and to some voluntary bodies.

 

Tsamiya said that the items donated since 2007, include cement, roofing sheets, wood and other building materials.

 

“The gesture was aimed at encouraging the benefiting communities to execute self-help projects”.

 

The adviser said the era of sole dependence on government for the provision of basic needs of the people was now over.

 

He said that the State Government had earmarked about N31 million for the purchase of other items this year.

 

Tsamiya said that “part of the money would be used for the purchase of 16 motorcycles for workers.

“Over N24 million of the money would be used for the purchase of spaghetti production machines, to intensify the empowerment of the womenfolk”. (NAN)
