Ethiopia gerenates $700m from oilseeds export, says trade minister

The Ethiopian Minister of Trade Kebede Channie disclosed this at beginning of a 3rd annual conference of grains oilseeds and spices exporters association in Addis Ababa.

Channie said, “700m dollars of the three dollars export revenue collected in the past budget year came from grains, oilseeds and spices.

“The grains, oilseeds and spices sector will achieve the target set in the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP),’’ the trade minister said.

Meanwhile, the Ethiopian Economy and Finance Cluster Coordinator and Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Debretsion Gebremichael expressed government’s commitment to strengthen support to the sector.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the government generates the revenue from exports the commodities by local processing companies under quality control and supervision by the government.

A member of the association, Suleman Osame said the association processed various commodities in the oilseed and grains sector for export to China, Singapore and some Asian countries.

“We are exporters in Ethiopia since our establishment 1999, since then we are exporting and indenting Ethiopian coffee, cattle, meat, precious stones.

“Fruits, cultural clothes with buyers design, cotton, lentils, sesame seeds, Niger seeds, rape seed, peanuts, linseed, castor seed, pumpkin seed, cotton seed, sunflower, safflower and  chick peas.

“We also process and export red kidney bean, bitter lupine bean, horse bean, green mung, white pea beans, pinto bean, light specked kidney bean, red speckled kidney bean, grass bean, dry ginger, turmeric stick, black cumin seed, cardamom, rape seed extraction cake from our edible oil factory and earehouses.’’ (NAN)
