The Sokoto State Government said on Wednesday that it it had expended about N1.2 billion on the construction of structures at the permanent site of the College of Agriculture, Wurno.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Arzika Tureta, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto.
Tureta said that hostels, administrative blocks, staff quarters, classrooms and the fencing of the entire school were nearing completion.
He said that the state government embarked on the construction of the college to produce the manpower needed to develop the agriculture sector.
He said the state government had also taken concrete measures to modernise the sector, to ensure massive food production in the state.
“We will continue to provide modern farming methods for our farmers, to ensure food security,” the commissioner said.
He called on farmers to embrace irrigation farming during the dry season, in order as to produce various food crops. (NAN)
