NIPCO seeks increase in petrol distribution market share


Mr-Venkatapathy-VenkataramanAn indigenous integrated downstream operator, NIPCO Plc, has declared its intention to grow its share of the petroleum product retail market from current level of 10 per cent by remodelling and expanding 150 of its retail outlets in the country.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Venkatapathy Venkataraman, in a statement on Wednesday, said the exercise was aimed at giving a general facelift to its stations and providing additional value- adding services to its customers outside of the conventional product dispensing.

Venkataraman, who was quoted as saying this on the sidelines of the Oil Trading & Logistic Expo in Lagos, added that its customers would now be able to patronise the retail outlets for fuel and non-fuel related services.

The NIPCO boss said the company’s new outlets would offer standard workshops and a service centre to make motorists have a one-stop shop for all automotive related endeavours.

On Liquefied Petroleum Gas skid, which is the latest technology in dispensing gas with a dual purpose of re-filling for domestic cooking and auto for vehicles, the MD said the company had deployed some across the country to bring gas close to the populace.

The skids, he noted, had electronic filling machines which help to deliver accurate quantity of gas as well as instant verification by buyers.

In the pursuit of promoting gas usage, the NIPCO boss said the company had stocked all LPG accessories like cylinders, burners, regulators and hoses, among others, for easy access by consumers.

He said NIPCO had invested heavily in smaller size cylinders with burners targeted at low income group at reasonable prices to improve accessibility and affordability.
