Former Tottenham star Micky Hazard believes a change in tempo could see the club become title contenders.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Spurs have made one of their best starts to a Premier League season after an overhaul of their playing squad across the summer.
New boys Chrisitan Eriksen, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches, amongst others, have helped Andre Villas-Boas’ side to six wins in nine games.
But their pedestrian passing style has irked some of the club’s supporters, who want their side to play with the pace and panache of old when Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon terrorised full-backs throughout the division.
Hazard agrees and feels if they attack opponents at speed it could well turn the team into challengers at the top of the table.
He told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “I think there is a lot more to come from Tottenham. I have much higher expectations of our squad at this moment in time.
“If I have a criticism of them I would say that at times our play is a bit methodical and a bit too slow. We’ve not played with a great deal of width. We’re not getting down the outside of teams as often as we should with the pace and quality that we’ve got. But it might just be the new players that we’ve got haven’t found out what each others’ strengths and weaknesses are yet.
“We need to change the tempo of our play when in possession. We need to circulate the ball around the team more and quicker so we can create gaps in opposing defences and when we’ve created them we need to go in with a bit of pace.
“Once we’ve achieved that, I genuinely believe we can become title contenders because we have got the quality.”
